Improve Your Impact on the Environment at Home

Today marks to 50th year of Earth Day, and this year the theme is climate action. Climate change represents the biggest challenge to the future of humanity and the life-support systems that make our world habitable.

Sneaker LAB prides itself on being a sustainable and environmentally friendly brand. We are continuously trying to find ways where we can improve and lessen our environmental impact, inside and outside of the office!

Did you know that, according to the Sensonseo 2019 Global Waste Index, humans produce two billion tons of waste per year?

Here are a few useful tips, from us to you, on how you can lessen your environmental impact at home in a few easy steps:

Protect your investments:

We all love our favorite pair of kicks and know you sneakerheads out there spend a fairly large amount of cash on your pride possessions – sneakers. Taking care of your sneakers correctly will lengthen the life of your sneakers, as well as reduce the need for you to buy yourself a fresh new pair. Using Sneaker LAB to protect and care for your sneakers is not only better for your sneakers but better for the environment, as our products are made sustainably and are environmentally friendly.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle:

A statement that every single human and business should live by. Reduce, reuse and recycle to be as environmentally friendly as possible, even if that means starting off on a small scale. You need to reduce the use of things that negatively impact the environment, a good start is only using reusable items such as metal water bottles and reusable shopping bags and recycle as much and as often as possible!

Understanding what you are buying & using:

Most people now days are joining the conscious movement. This is moving towards a more conscious way of living by understanding what you’re buying, where it comes from and how it will affect you, your family and friends, and the environment. For example, there has been a mass movement away from products containing palm oil, as palm oil is one of the main reasons for deforestation globally and is the main threat to the survival of orangutan monkey populations. We urge you to read your product labels and understand what you are purchasing both for health and environmental reasons.

Reduce waste at the grocery store:

This is as easy as remembering to take your reusable bags with you to the shops, it’s something worth running back to the car to get! Another way to reduce your waste is to shop at local plastic-free stores, as well as buying fresh produce from local markets or farmers.

Save water:

There are a whole lot of things you can do to reduce your water usage. As much as we all love our own shower sing-along performances, they do waste a ton of water. Spend less time singing to your shampoos and more time making haste! Also, remember to turn off the tap when you’re brushing your teeth or shaving. Did you know that one running tap can waste up to six liters of water per minute? Another fun fact, from an environmental standpoint, showers will always beat baths! To put the difference into perspective, it takes about 265 liters to fill up a normal bathtub, and a five-minute shower uses 37 liters! That’s a BIG difference! When cooking or washing veggies or salads, wait for the water to cool down and then use it to feed your houseplants. The veggie matter will add extra nutrients to your plants!

No matter how small the change you make is, it still makes a difference! Imagine every human decides today that they will no longer use single-use plastic bags, it’s a small change that can make an everlasting and hugely positive impact.

Many small people, in small places, doing small things can change the world
