Top 10 Air Max 1s

This year is the 35th Anniversary of the Air Max 1 and we pay homage to the revolution it created in the sneaker world.

Introduced 26 March 1987, the Air Max 1 set the tone and the stage for the progression of the Air Max line. As the 1st sneaker of its kind to feature visible air, the Air Max 1 paved the way for countless future incorporations of the signature Air Max technology. Demonstrating that the Air Max 1 is a 1 of a kind sneaker and ultimately was a huge catalyst in moving sneaker culture forward. At Sneaker LAB, we always try to pull out all the stops to create a celebratory campaign for Air Max Day, stay tuned to see what we have in store...

Before we reveal what we did, we thought it would be a great time to rank our top 10 favorite Air Max Sneakers. Here they are in no particular order:

Nike Air Max 1 x Parra

The sneaker features predominantly white and grey uppers with Parra's signature color palette and imagery painting the mud guards, insoles, and outsole. The Parra touch makes this one of the most interesting Air Max's to look at and wear.

Nike Air Max 1 “Animal Pack 2.0”

The popular atmos x Nike Air Max Animal Pack, which first debuted in 2006, saw a 2.0 version in 2018 to celebrate Air Max Day. The shoe basically features a mixture of faux animal furs consisting of zebra, leopard and tiger patterns, while red contrasting accents are used for the swooshes, branding on the tongue and insoles. Green accents are used on the heel and air bubble unit, followed by a white midsole and gum rubber outsole to complete the design altogether.

Originally released back in 2003, the sneaker became an instant head-turner thanks to the main draw: crisp elephant print that appears along the mudguard panelling and ankle. Premium black suede covers the side panel and ankle with the Swoosh and Nike branding are coloured in a vibrant Clear Jade hue to complete the look.

Dutch artist Parra partnered with Amsterdam's Patta boutique to release an exclusive colorway of the 'Patta X Parra' Air Max 1 in 2010. Featuring an upper suede Cherrywood Red with corresponding mesh overlays on the toe box and collar, the details of Chenille appear on the sidewall on the Swoosh, giving texture.

CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 K.o.D.

CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 K.o.D. Nike and long-time collaborator, CLOT, reissued their Nike Air Max 1 CLOT Kiss Of Death in 2021. Bringing back the collab in its original design in 2021 answered the prayers of many Air Max fans that were unable to get their hands on the pair 15 years ago and in the years since.

Nike Air Max 1 “Amsterdam”

The Nike Air Max 1 Amsterdam features a red and peach corduroy, suede, and leather upper, with warm tones such as Red Bark around the midsection of the Amsterdam. From there, embellishments that show off the "Nike Air" brand dot the back of the heel, and a chunky "Air Max" sole completes the design.

Nike Air Max 1 Patta Waves “Monarch”

Nike Air Max 1 Patta Waves “Monarch” This Air Max arguably brought in a whole new audience to the Air Max 1. The Patta Waves x Air Max 1 pack was extremely hyped and brought a fresh approach to the Air Max with the addition of the wavey suede panels. It was tough to choose between the colorways as they all hit so well but we had to go with the "Monarch" that kicked everything off.

Nike Air Max 1 OG “Varsity Red”

How could we not include the OG Air Max 1? This is the sneaker that kicked it all off and it is still one of the cleanest colorways to have existed. An old school sneaker that has stood the test of time!
